Job Description

The Cellular and Molecular Sciences Group at the James Hutton Institute would like to recruit an experienced researcher to support a range of projects focussed on crop molecular physiology. The group has been successful in attracting a portfolio of funding that address issues such as climate change. The varied skill set available in the group will be able to provide training and the opportunity to develop new skills. The role requires a versatile individual with a minimum of a BSc in a biological science and three years relevant experience. Molecular biology skills are essential as it the ability to process and present data. We require a strong team player with good interpersonal skills.

Main Duties of Postholder

  • Conduct and support research associated with the varied research projects within the potato molecular physiology group
  • Maintain excellent laboratory records
  • Conduct basic statistical analysis of data
  • Provide support in the logistics of experimental design and initiation
  • Act as laboratory manager following appropriate training
  • Maintain laboratory stocks


  • BSc in a biological science + 3 years relevant experience
  • Proven expertise in molecular biology
  • Demonstrable organisational skills
  • Ability to process and present data
  • Strong team player with good interpersonal skills.

  • Plant Biochemistry Experience
  • Laboratory Management Experience
  • Experience in managing project budgets
